Enter the Ultra Limited Commemorative Edition Lotus Type 72D

Ah. You just know that people are going to be scrambling to get this. Well at least those who can afford to.

Lotus Cars USA, Inc. has just announced that it will soon be offering the 35th Anniversary commemorative edition type 72D. This exclusive (as if owning a Lotus isn’t exclusive enough) Collectible Edition model is a commemorative model for one of the finest Formula 1 designs of all time -- the Lotus 72.

The Lotus 72 was the vehicle that the legendary Emerson Fittipaldi drove his way to history, winning five of eleven races in 1972 -- becoming the youngest champion in F1 history.

And you know that when Lotus says limited it is seriously limited. This collectible edition will be offered in the very limited quantity of just 50 units worldwide. Yes, I repeat, 50 precious units, each sequentially numbered, with special certification documenting the legacy of the vehicle, individually signed by both Clive Chapman, son of Lotus founder Colin Chapman, and Michael J. Kimberley, Group Lotus CEO. And just so everyone knows that you’re one hell of a lucky Lotus 72D owner, a decorative type 72D commemorative driving helmet and display case will also be included with each vehicle.

And that’s not all. Tears of joy will flow forth from the lucky 50 owners (who are probably reaching for their wallets now and calling ‘em Lotus folks for reservations) with the special vehicle equipment that comes with each limited edition Lotus 72D: gold accents and pinstriping throughout the exterior of the vehicle, two-toned leather and Alcantara interior, gold cast wheels, type 72D rear spoiler, gold and black laurels and badging, to name a few.

Configuration also includes Lotus Touring Pack, Sport Pack, Metallic Paint, Starshield, type 72D pack, and Destination, with an MSRP under $60,000. The type 72D will be introduced later this year through authorized North American Lotus dealers.

This extraordinary vehicle will be showcased at the New York International Auto Show in the Jacob Javits Center April 6 through April 15.
