Volvo Goes for More Safety

There’s no stopping Volvo from being the safest, if not, one of the safest cars in the automotive world. Just last month, Frost & Sullivan awarded Volvo with the 2005 CEO Choice Award. The award is given to the vehicle make in America with the most useful safety features. Top corporate chief executives were surveyed and unanimously chose Volvo as the safest among other cars.

Yesterday, Volvo once again proved to the world their excellence in car safety by introducing its new Volvo Driver Alert System, which monitors the vehicle’s progress on the road, thereby, determining how the vehicle is being controlled. It alerts the driver when signs of fatigue and distraction are detected. Through this active safety feature in Volvo cars, drivers can prevent collisions early on.

According to the U.S National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 100,000 collisions are due to drivers falling asleep. Out of that, 1,500 drivers die. Recognizing that driver fatigue results to great destruction and even loss of life, Volvo takes another bold move to devise a system that could help drivers make the right decision before the regrettable happens.

Volvo ensures the driver’s safety by programming it in such a way that the system would be activated in times when the risk of falling asleep is the greatest and where a collision would have severe consequences, according to a news source. The Driver Alert System is especially activated at above 40 mph until the speed goes down to 37 mph.

However, for those of you who are already looking for this safety feature in the current Volvo cars in the market, you might be disappointed because you still have to wait for two more years before it comes out.
