Airstream Trailer in Museum of Modern Art

The 1963 Airstream Bambi has been chosen as part of the permanent collection of the prominent Museum of Modern Art in New York. Alcoa, the leading supplier of aluminum for Airstream trailers for over five decades, joined in saluting Airstream trailers. Alcoa has been steadfastly supplying aluminum sheet to Thor Industries for its Airstream recreational vehicles since the 1960s. Its manufacturing plant is headquartered in Lancaster, Pa. Airstream trailers have been running on Alcoa aluminum forged wheels and rims for as long as they have been commercially available.

Helmut Wieser, Alcoa Executive Vice President and Group President, Global Rolled Products and Hard Alloy Extrusions enthused that the Airstream trailer is one of the most recognized products worldwide in part of its polished aluminum body design. “We attribute our long standing business relationship with Airstream and Thor Industries to teamwork, quality service and understanding the customer’s brand.” Wieser added.

The Airstream trailer is one classic American trailer that dons a 13-inch silver bubble on wheels, the smallest one made and is very rare. With its aerodynamic aluminum body, the Bambi is one rolling machine that’s perfect for living and traveling in comfort. As a cultural icon, the Airstream trailer evokes the freedom of the open road and the convenience of a home on wheels.

Dubbed as “On the Road: Airstream Bambi Travel Trailer”, it is now for public access in the main lobby of The Museum of Modern Art through November 12, 2007. For more information, log online for more details.
